Can a simple shift in the way you think be the small hinge that swings open the door to online business success? You are about to find out because the development of this blog is going to be a “Case Study” on this very subject.
A few days ago I was reading my business journal and when I came across an entry I made during the first week of January, 2013. In this journal I had documented what I wanted to accomplish with WebBusinessResearch.com (WBR) in 2013.
Here is what I posted in the journal (dated January 6, 2013):
The primary goal for Web Business Research in 2013 is to consistently add value to the marketplace by posting unique and original content every other day. I will make 180 posts in 2013. To do that I simply need to make one post to WBR every other day.
I also want to “Go Pro” with Web Business Research by the end of 2013. If I consistently add content to WBR and reach my goal of 180 posts by year end, I should be in position to go full-time with Web Business Research by December, if not sooner.
My thinking was simple. If I make one post every other day by the end of 2013 I will be able to transform this blog into an authority site that will be a traffic and lead generation machine in the web business and internet marketing space. In addition, I should be able to rank on page one of Google for just about any web business keyword that I target.
Well, something interesting has happened during the past 7+ months. I have not made nearly the progress on Web Business Reseach that I had intended — and it’s all because I have not done the one thing that I need to do in order to turn WBR into the success that I want it to be. I have not shown up every day and delivered valuable content that helps my core customer become a more informed and educated online entrepreneur.
As of today there are only 133 days remaining until 2013 ends and we turn the page on another year. The good news is that I still have time to reach my goal of 180 post to WBR by the end of this year. But in order to do it I now have to average more than one post a day.
Obviously, something has got to change. And the one thing that has to change is my approach to building WebBusinessResearch.com. During the first seven months of this year I have not treated this blog and this business as if it is my profession. I have treated this blog like it’s a side project that I do when I am not working on my offline business. (FYI — I also run private car service / limo service).
Here is the big change that I must make if I want to “Go Pro” with Web Business Research by the end of 2013 — I have got to start treating Web Business Research like it is already my profession. This business has the potential to be a 7-figure a year business and I need to treat it with the seriousness that it deserves. I have got to develop a sense of urgency and make the development of WBR my top priority. I need to become “COMMITTED” — because if I don’t, one year from now I will be in the same place I’m in today.
I am not the only blogger who has dealt with this issue. Several weeks ago I made a post at Web Business Research which detailed the challenges Problogger’s Darren Rowse was experiencing early in his blogging career. Like myself, Darren was not generating the results that he desired. And he continued to struggle until one day when his wife issued a challenge. Darren’s wife told him that he needed to get serious and he needed to start treating his blog like a business.
Darren Rowse followed his wife’s advice and the rest is history. In the past 10 years Darren has turned Problogger.net into one of the post popular blogs in the marketplace. In addition, Darren has gone on to launch several more blogs in a multitude of markets. Darren has become on of the most successful and prolific bloggers on the planet. And his rise began the day his wife challenged him to get serious about his business.
In this excellent post titled “How To Make Your Blogging Dreams Come True” Darren goes into detail about he challenges he faced during his first year of blogging.
As I was reading this post, I realized that my lack of progress with Web Business Research was almost identical to Darren’s lack of progress when he started blogging. It all boiled down to the simple fact that I was not serious about the success of Web Business Research.
The bottom line is that I have to invest less time in my offline business (my private car service / limo business) and I must start investing more time in developing the business that is going to take me to where I want to go. And that business is Web Business Research.
Now here is the good news. I firmly believe that Web Business Research is positioned for success. I say this because this site can rank for some highly competitive keywords in the online business and internet marketing space. During the past 12 to 18 months I have blogged about several internet marketing product launches and most of my posts are on ranked on page one, two or three of Google. Here is a sample of these rankings:
- Mass Control 2.0 — #4 in Google.
- Pay Per View Formula — #3 in Google
- Jeff Johnson’s Tube Traffic Secrets — #9 in Google
- Tube Traffic Secrets — #25 in Google
- Mark Ling Affilobluprint 3.0 — #12 in Google
- Affiloblueprint 3.0 — #27 in Google
- Accelerate High Growth Business Training — #21 in Google
- Nonstop Traffic Formula — #12 in Google
- Traffic & Conversion Summit 2013 — #9 in Google
Here is the point that I want to make. This blog is able to rank on page one to three for just about any internet marketing keyword that I target. And I am doing this by posting just one post every 15 to 20 days — and as of today I have not a post to WBR in more than 40 days!!
In addition, I have done very little backlinking to this blog. The total number of backlinks as of this writing is only 44, and only a few of them are contextual backlinks where I am targeting a specific keyword. In other words . . .
I have done very little to SEO this blog, and yet it is ranking for some fairly competitive keywords in the web business & internet marketing niche. This tells me that Web Business Research is positioned for success. The foundation has been layed. Now it is just up to me to turn up the heat and become a prolific creator of quality content that adds value to the marketplace every day.
I firmly believe the simple act of making “One Post” every day to WBR will transform this site into a “Web Business Authority” by the end of this year. If not, it will most certainly be on the verge of becoming an authority.
It really is that simple. I need to make the development of this business my top priority and everything else must take a back seat to it. I have got to show up EVERDAY and start treating this business (and this blog) with the seriousness that it deserves.
If Web Business Research is going to become my profession I have to start treating it like it already is my profession!!
For far too long Web Business Research has taken a back seat the my limo business. That has to change. It is now the limo business that has to take a back seat to Web Business Research.
I have put a ton of thought into what I want to accomplish with Web Business Research in the remaining 133 days of 2013. As mentioned above, I want WBR to become a growing authority in the marketplace. But I want it to be more than just a blog. I want WebBusinessResearch.com to become a “Multi-Media Platform” that delivers the latest news, research and tested strategies that help online entrepreneurs like you move closer to business success.
Tomorrow I will be making a post that goes into greater detail on what you can expect from WBR the rest of 2013. For now I am just going to say that the biggest change you will see at Web Business Research is my commitment to the development of this site.
One of the first things that I want to start doing at WBR is post case studies. My commitment to get serious with Web Business Research and to treat it like it is already my profession is “Case Study #1.”
Let’s see if a simple shift in mindset and a new way of thinking can accelerate the growth and success of this blog.
The rest of 2013 is going to be an amazing ride. Let’s get this baby started!!
I’ll talk to you soon.
